Let's celebrate December with a double-theatre weekend to enjoy two Christmas Classics: White Christmas at the Chanhassen Dinner Theatre and A Christmas Carol at the Guthrie Theatre December 13-14, 2025!
Coming to Chanhassen Dinner Theatres’ Main Stage for the second time in as many years, White Christmas is based on the beloved, timeless film, this heartwarming musical adaptation features 17 Irving Berlin songs and a book by David Ives and Paul Blake. White Christmas revolves around two buddies, Bob Wallace and Phil Davis. After World War II, they become a popular song-and-dance duo and they decide to help their former commanding general by putting on a show at his struggling Vermont inn. Along the way, they meet two talented sisters, Betty and Judy Haynes, and love blossoms during the holiday season. White Christmas is a festive celebration of romance, friendship and the magic of Christmas. With a dazzling score featuring well-known standards including “Blue Skies,” “I Love A Piano,” and the perennial title song, White Christmas is an uplifting, wholesome and joy-filled musical celebration! Sunday, we will visit Trader Joe's for free time to shop before we visit the beautiful Guthrie Theatre in downtown Minneapolis for A Christmas Carol at the Wurtele Thrust Stage. Each Christmas, the miserly and miserable Ebenezer Scrooge greets the holiday with “Bah! Humbug!” and can’t be bothered to celebrate. One Christmas Eve, Scrooge is visited by three spirits who show him happy memories from his past, difficult realities from the present and a grim future should he continue his closed-hearted ways. Throughout his journey, Scrooge is forced to reckon with the man he has become and contemplate the man he could be — but only if his restless night leads to a change of heart by morning. Filled with hope and festivity, the Guthrie’s cherished holiday tradition continues to bring joy to theater goers of all ages. Faithful to the Dickens tale, Lavina Jadhwani's adaptation carefully tracks the moments when Scrooge becomes a willing participant in his own transformation, from the nostalgia of seeing his boyhood school to the fear that Death will claim him before he can act on his change of heart. In 2021, the Guthrie invested in a new physical production of this family favorite, including new scenic, costume, prop, lighting and sound designs. These details continue to be updated and amplified every year. In case of inclement weather where the motorcoach is advised not to travel by the state highway patrol, a full refund will be made less ticket costs.
