The Chanhassen Dinner Theatre is thrilled to bring the exciting musical that took Broadway by storm, Disney's Newsies! With amazing choreography, unforgettable songs and inspirational storytelling, Newsies is a not-to-be-missed, high-energy show for all ages. Inspired by the real-life Newsboys Strike of 1899 in New York City, Jack Kelly hawks the headlines day-in and day-out with countless other newsboys trying to save enough to make his dreams a reality. New York World publisher, Joseph Pulitzer, realizes he can maximize profits by raising the prices of the "pages" and does so without a word to the "Newsies." Upon seeing Pulitzer's greed, the newsboys protest and declare a strike against all the publishing giants. Realizing it will take more than his friends to make a difference, Jack rallies all the "Newsies" in New York City. Through courage, determination, and friendship the "Newsies" are ready to seize the day and take a stand. Coupled with dazzling choreography, you will hear the unforgettable songs composed by the Academy Award-winning composer Alan Menken. Don't miss this ultimate crowd-please, a Minneosta Regional Premiere, nominated for 8 Tony Awards including Best Musical! A delicious served table-side dinner is also included.
Sunday, we will spend some time shopping at Westridge Market before we travel to the Orpheum Theater in downtown Minneapolis for the matinee production of "Love Never Dies". The year is 1907. It is 10 years after his disappearance from the Paris Opera House and The Phantom has escaped to a new life in New York where he lives amongst the screaming joy rides and freak-shows of Coney Island. In this new electrically-charged world, he has finally found a place for his music to soar. All that is missing is his love-Christine Daae. Now one of the world's finest sopranos, Christine is struggling in an ailing marriage to Raoul. It is with much excitement that she accepts an invitation to travel to New York and perform at a renowned opera house. In a final bid to win back her love, The Phantom lures Christine, her husband and their young son Gustave from Manhatten to the glorious world of Coney Island...not knowing what is in store for them.
